What is Bowen Therapy?

Bowen Therapy is a gentle, hands-on body therapy that works with the nervous system to encourage the body’s natural ability to heal, reset and restore balance. Using small, precise movements over muscles, tendons and connective tissue, Bowen Therapy helps reduce pain, release tension and improve overall function.

This subtle technique is suitable for people of all ages and can support a wide range of conditions, from musculoskeletal pain and injuries to stress-related tension and nervous system imbalance.

Bowen Therapy uses minimal pressure and allows the body time to respond, making it a safe and effective option for both acute and chronic conditions.

How Does Bowen Therapy Work?

Bowen Therapy works by stimulating the nervous system through gentle rolling movements over specific points of the body. These movements send signals to the brain, helping the body recognise areas of tension and imbalance and encouraging it to return to a more relaxed, balanced state.

During each session, short pauses are included between sets of movements. These pauses are an essential part of the technique, allowing the body time to process the information and begin its natural healing response.

Bowen Therapy works holistically, supporting not only the muscles and joints, but also the fascia, nerves and internal systems.
